Biography
Kinya Young Myrie is an American gospel singer and actress. She was born in Fort Polk, Louisiana on September 11, 1981. Kinya’s passion and dedication for singing began in grade school. Early memories of singing include her raising her grandmother’s back window singing in hopes of someone hearing her eight- year- old voice giving her best Jem, Barbie Rockstar impression.
Her teenage years lead her into performing for large audiences. As an adult Kinya has been blessed to sing background vocals for gospel recording artist, Alvin Slaughter, at the Paramount Theater in New York City, to open for James Fortune and minister through song with Patrick Lundy and The Ministers of Music. It was here she sang behind many greats such as Diana Ross, Jennifer Hudson, Amber Riley, Cee-Lo Green, Justin Bieber, The Band Perry and Victoria Justice.
Kinya has also performed at the Apollo Theater, The Maryland Theater, the Gala Theater, Bowie State University and various churches. She has been an active participant in the Miss America Organization being honored to win many local titles and placing in the top ten at the Miss Maryland pageant.
She has a Bachelor of Music from Howard University with a concentration in music therapy. Currently, she is a music educator for elementary school children, and believes music has the power to heal and touch the soul.
